Summary:
Retinal angiomatous proliferation is a variant of the neovascular form of age-related macular degeneration where the neovascular complex is located within the sensory retina. The classic features suggesting retinal angiomatous proliferation in fundus examination are intraretinal hemorrhages, intraretinal edema, hard exudates, pigment epithelial detachment and retinal-retinal or retinal-choroidal anastomosis found usually in both eyes. Anatomical results of retinal angiomatous proliferation treatment with intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agents injections are good however the functional results are related to the severity of retinal damage and are the best when treatment is started in the early stages of the disease.
