Summary: 

Eye Tissue Banks in Poland establishing was the response for increasing asking for keratoplasty procedures number, as a result of the long list of patients waiting for transplantation.
All eye bank workers are well educated and trained on collection and preservation of eye tissue, confirmed by certificates.
Banks possesses very well-equipped laboratories and specialistic equipment enabling properly collected and preserved ocular tissues to be stored in special conditions in cool temperature.
Slit lamp and endothelial microscope enable complete morphological evaluation of the collected corneo-scleral buttons, serological tests of the blood samples taken from donors enables to exclude infectious diseases.
Eye banks also conducts corneas distribution to the transplantation centers in Poland.
Polish eye banks’ goal is to increase the number of ocular tissue collections for patients registered on the lists in all transplantation centers all over Poland and to give high-quality services in collection, testing, preservation and distribution of the corneas.
