Summary:
Patients who underwent corneal surgery as well as contact lens wearers often suffer from iatrogenic dry eye disease. In some cases, the cause of dry eye disease’s signs and symptoms is more complicated, due to different risk factors, such as age, gender, hormonal and systemic disorders. Ocular surface lubrication is the first-line therapy for patients after superficial corneal surgery, such as laser refractive procedures, mechanical keratectomy, corneal cross-linking. In the above cases symptomatic dry eye disease is temporal, while for patients after keratoplasty and contact lens wearers the therapy should be persistent. The choice of the proper artificial tears is crucial.
