Summary: 

Viral eye infections are a frequent cause of „pink eye” like: conjunctivitis, keratitis or uveitis. It is caused by viruses like adenovirus, herpes virus, less often by pox-viruses, Varicella- Zoster virus or lately conjunctivitis due to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Symptoms include irritation, photophobia, pain, red or swollen eyes, blurred vision and watery discharge. Viral conjunctivitis like bacterial is highly contagious. It is usually clears up without treatment in 7 to 14 days but sometimes antiviral eye drops or corticosteroids are beneficial. This infections – viral – are more common in adults than in children.
