Summary:
The skin of the eyelids is a frequent place to find various benign and malignant tumors. Eyelid tumors constitute 5–10% of all skin malignancies. In respect of eye and ocular adnexa, eyelid tumors comprise on average 42–46.8% of all tumors. Almost 80% of eyelid tumors examined by ophthalmologists are of benign character. The most common malignant tumor of the eyelids is basal cell carcinoma which constitutes 90–95% of malignant lesions in this area. Less common (5%) are glandular and adnexal neoplasms, pigmented tumors and other. Treatment is usually surgical. Any excised lesion requires histopathological verification which is important to determine further procedures and treatment.
