Treatment of Wet Age-related Macular Degeneration Using a Therapeutic Program at the Department of General Ophthalmology of Medical University of Lublin

Summary:
Purpose: To assess the treatment of patients with exudative form of age-related macular degeneration at the Department of General Ophthalmology in Lublin.
Material and Methods: Analysis of patient data from the system of therapeutic program in the years 2015–2018.
Results: As of March 2018, 261 eyes are treated, amounting to 30% of treated eyes in a therapeutic program ran at the Lublin Department of the National Health Fund. A total number of 2.059 injections were administered during 2.663 visits during a total treatment period of 4.198 months, which gives an average of 1 injection per 2 months. As of now, the majority of patients have already completed the first year of treatment and are undergoing a pro re nata scheme. Only 18 eyes have been withdrawn from the program due to impaired visual acuity.
Conclusions: The therapeutic program for age-related macular degeneration has improved the availability of treatment and ensured its efficacy.
