Summary:
Diabetes mellitus has been called the first non-infectious epidemic in the world. The longer it lasts, the more it damages the organs of the body. These changes also affect the eyesight. They manifest themselves in the form of diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema. If left untreated, diabetic retinopathy can cause severe eye damage up to complete blindness.
