Summary: Blepharoplasty is an operation to modify the contour and configuration of the eyelids which aims to restore a more youthful appearance and improve their function. The surgery involves removing excess skin, fat tissue and sometimes parts of orbicularis oculi muscle.
Additionally, supporting ligaments are shortened. It results frequently with improved functioning including an increased visual field, reducing discomfort associated with excess skin and/ or poor eyelid position, aesthetic benefits as well as headache- and vision-related quality of life improvement. Blepharoplasty may involve the upper eyelid, lower eyelid or both.
