Summary: Posttraumatic macular hole is the second most common cause of macular hole. It is defined to macular hole caused by mechanic blunt injury of the eye and may develop immediately following trauma or several weeks after. Traumatic macular hole is more common in younger population, mostly affects males and has some typical features: larger hole diameter, more horizontally oval in shape, rare posterior vitreous detachment and higher possibility to the spontaneous closure. In most cases of traumatic macular hole, surgical treatment is often delayed due to the possibility of spontaneous closure. Optical coherence tomography is the gold standard in assessment of macular structure. Optical coherence tomography images are used preoperatively for the confirmation of the diagnosis, allow for grading the stage of macular hole, minimum diameter or/ and base diameter of the macular hole, central subfield retinal thickness, height of the macular hole. In this article we would like to report the cases of traumatic macular hole in young patients according to utility of optical coherence tomography.
