Extremely Low Frequency Magnetic Field Stimulation – Method of Physiotherapy Applied in Severe Ocular Diseases Such As Age-related Macular Degeneration and High Degenerative Myopia

Summary: Objective: To evaluate the effects of magnetic stimulation in difficult ophthalmological cases.
Material: Magnetic stimulation was applied in 3 patients (81, 82, 86 years old) with cicatrical stage of age-related macular degeneration, with low visual acuity (hand movements to 0.5/50) and in 3 patients with degenerative myopia.
Methods: Extremely low frequency magnetic field generated by VIOFOR JPS, was used for the treatment, large applicator for the whole body (mat) and ring applicator for the head, 1 x daily (age-related macular degeneration), 1–3 x daily (myopia), programs: M1P3 with intensity from 1 to 4 and M2P2 with intensity 1–4. Treatment was continued daily. The observation time was 2 years.
After 5 months of magnetic stimulation vision improvement was observed in patients with age-related macular degeneration, as well as in degenerative myopia. Two patients with age-related macular degeneration with the initial visual acuity of 0.5/5 achieved improvement in vision to 2/50. Definetely better results were obtained in patients with myopia.

2. Extremely Low Frequency Magnetic Field stimulation applied in degenerative myopia allows to improve and stabilize vision.
3. In diseases of the posterior segment of the eye effect depends on the magneto-type and severity of the condition.
