Summary: Purpose: The aim of this paper is to present the clinical case of cystoid macular edema secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion refractory to laser grid treatment treated with Eylea.
Material and Methods: This is case report of 73-years old female patient who developed cystoid macular edema secondary to superior-temporal retinal vein occlusion in her left eye.
The patient underwent uneventful cataract extraction. She suffered from hypertension and diabetes mellitus which was controlled with oral medications.
The patient was initially treated with grid laser but no improvement in retina anatomy nor in retinal function was achieved. Eylea injection was additionally performed after 5 months which resulted in edema reabsorption and vision improvement. Retinal anatomy remains stable within 3 months after injection.
Results and Discussion: “off-label” aflibercept use in case of macular edema secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion may be successful and alternative to other anti-VEGF treatment methods.
