Osteoodontokeratoprosthesis in Corneal Blindness Treatment

Summary: The article presents the surgical technique Modified-osteoodontokeratoprosthesis MOOKP, also known as "tooth in eye" during which the tooth tissues are being implanted into the eye. Treatment is aimed at restoring vision using keratoprosthesis in patients with corneal blindness. Surgical technique has been discussed along with indications and contraindications for the treatment, biological properties of transplanted tissues and optical cylinders. Current scientific information, developing new designs of optical cylinders, a comparison of different keratoprosthesis techniques, development of new synthetic materials for transplantation has been taken into account. Complications and costs of the treatment are subject to analysis as well.
