Jak osiągnąć sukces w korekcji astygmatyzmu za pomocą miękkich torycznych soczewek kontaktowych
How to be successful in fitting soft toric contact lenses in astigmatics?
Abstrakt – VIII Sympozjum Sekcji Soczewek Kontaktowych PTO (7–9 październik 2011)
Abstract – VIII National Ophthalmology Congress in Warsaw (7–9 October 2011)
Summary: Advances in lens design from last decade have made toric soft lenses an increasingly popular choice for patients and practitioners alike. New manufacturing techniques offer more reproducible products, making soft toric fitting procedure more consistent quick and simple.
Key factors for successful soft toric fitting by a practitioner would be a stable and reliable fit, clear, consistent visual acuity, with maximum comfort and minimal chair time. Unstable lens orientation and variable visual acuity are described by specialists as reasons why soft torics are not fitted in larger group of patients. Patients would also like fast lens orientation to achieve optimal vision performance soon after lens insertion. To get a better understanding of factors influencing toric lens fit, orientation and stability, and hence satisfying patient and practitioner needs, recent research has focused on toric lens design and rotational stability.
The lecture will focus on some topics like: the influence of under-corrected astigmatism on visual system, different designs of toric contact lenses and results of studies on soft toric contact lenses stability. Also some practical fitting techniques to increase success with toric contact lenses will be recommended.
