Summary: Purpose: Evaluation of the keratoconus progression using corneal topography in patients wearing rigid gas permeable contact lenses. Material and method: 37 patients (3 women, 34 men) aged 17-56 years with keratoconus were examined. Patients were wearing rigid gas permeable multicurved contact lenses (ROSE K, McGuire, Woodward, Nova Gas, LD Aspheric, LD Toric ? by David Thomas, or Asfeerflex ? by Microlens). The follow-up time was 12-35 months, mean 15 months. Every 6 months patients underwent ophthalmologic examination and corneal topography (videokeratography) using Optopol PT-100. Central keratometric data, eccentricity, shape and surface of the keratoconus were evaluated. Results: Mean central astigmatism changed from 9.03?0.67 D to 5.35?0.77 D. Topography analysis revealed stabilization in 52 eyes (70%), regression in 16 eyes (21%) and progression in 6 eyes (8%). Conclusions: Rigid gas permeable contact lenses generally give stabilization or regression of keratoconus without causing morphological changes.
